Three decorated FBI investigators - Jamie Garman, Blaire Toleman, and Michelle Ball - have filed a federal lawsuit against Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, alleging they were fired as part of a sweeping, coordinated political purge of anyone the Trump administration perceived as an enemy. The lawsuit, filed in D.C. District Court, represents a proposed class action that already covers at least 50 fired FBI employees - with that number expected to grow.

The complaint doesn't mince words. Bondi and Patel, it alleges, "have embarked on a public campaign to oust Plaintiffs from federal service because Defendants perceived them to be political opponents - as if fidelity to the law and the proper execution of assignments were somehow hostile partisan acts."

These career FBI agents were fired not for failing to do their jobs, but for doing them without making the exceptions to the law that Trump and his minions wanted.

But here's what makes this all even more chilling: the purge goes way beyond just the agents who worked on Jack Smith's Trump investigations. According to the lawsuit, employees have been terminated for perceived support of Black Lives Matter, for displaying LGBTQ pride flags at their desks, for maintaining friendships with other disfavored employees, for being targeted by far-right media personalities, and - in one of the most dystopian details yet - for having internal messages flagged by artificial intelligence surveillance tools.

Yes, it's come to this under the Trump administration. The FBI, America's premier federal law enforcement agency, is now apparently screening its own agents with AI for thought crimes.

Some of the fired agents had committed the unforgivable sin of kneeling during 2020 racial justice protests in an effort to prevent violence. That's it. That's why they lost their careers.

This is the second lawsuit this month targeting the Justice Department over retaliatory firings connected to the Trump investigations, code-named "Arctic Frost." The walls are beginning to close in - not on the deep state bogeyman Trump has spent a decade inventing, but on the very real, very documented political persecution operation he has built in its place.

Trump didn't end any of the "witch hunts" that he claims were aimed at him strictly for political purposes. He just made up his own witch hunt and made sure that he was the one holding the broomstick.
